It’s damn nice that some company finds the covert installation of unwanted software so offensive that they create a set of guidelines and hope their industry adopts said guidelines. That company is Google.

I can’t stress how much I HATE when companies do this. RealPlayer, I’m talking to you. Look up RealPlayer and Spyware and you’ll see what I mean. CR’s pc got hosed by Real and they essentially said: You allowed it when you said ‘yes’ in the licensing agreement. Google’s Software Principles addresses this with their “Upfront Disclosure” clause.

It’s nice this is drafted, but I’m interested to see how many companies adopt anything like this.
