So I got another thing done on my list of things to do for the Accord. I took it to a local shop by my house and the guy who helped me was really helpful. It’s been acting up and overheating again, but I mainly wanted them to take care of the speedometer issue I’ve been having (as in I have none). Don at Honda & Acura Services here in Denver said they would fix the speedometer and let me know what it would cost to take care of the temperature issue. Normally it would cost me $$$ just to look at the thing. Oh, this was also at 2:30pm on a Friday. He called back at 3:00pm and said the engine and sensors were all fine but the gauge was acting wacky. It turns out there’s a recall for wacky-acting gauges and he can fix it for the price of labor ($40). “Fix it!” I says.
At 4:10pm, Don calls me and tells me that the speedometer and temperature gauge are fixed. There are probably a handful of shops certified to work on Hondas that will take a car on a Friday afternoon at 2:30pm with no appointment, diagnose a problem and fix it in an hour and a half. Every other place I called wanted a full day after they ordered the part, which would take a week. I, of course, would have to pre-pay for the part. Screw them.
Honda & Acura Services (soon to be known as United Auto II, Honda/Acura) will have my business whenever I need them. I highly recommend them if you are in the Denver area. Here’s their info:
