I’m finally getting around to posting my pics from our camping and flyfishing trip to Buena Vista, CO. The spot we got for the weekend was awesome. It was on a bluff overlooking the Arkansas River and facing some mountains (I think they were the Collegiates - little help anyone?). What a blast. The flyfishing was disappointing because the river was running so fast with the rapid snowmelt and was really muddy. I almost got swept away by the strong currents and got a nice dunking in the Ark. It’s a scary feeling when your waders fill up with water, but I was able to plow my foot into the riverbed until my leg caught. Thanks to Adam for being ready to haul my ass out of there.
The new toy took a bit of time to get used to and I can’t say that the first day was successful at all. The wind was really whipping I just can’t figure out the roll cast with this rod. We went back to camp to have a few adult beverages with what can only be described as one of the best (and loudest) camping groups ever assembled. I woke up, successfully checked my sleeping bag for the absence of vomit and hit it again. JK knew of a great spot that will be awesome once the snowmelt subsides. The caddis were coming off the river like crazy but the water was still murky. The wind died down so I could get my cast on and I was able to find some backwater with a bit of cover. I fished it a few times then BAM, a 5-inch rainbow snatched the Winston’s cherry. I’m so proud.
Here are a few pics from the weekend including the panorama. You can find the full gallery right here.
