When I did my first road bike ride, I had to create a mental list of things to carry based on things I needed. I created it based on the flat tire I got and here’s what I came up with.
- Extra tire tube
CO2 Inflator
Tire tools
Seat bag
Water Bottles
Last night I created a new mental list:
- Bactine
Neosporin
Gauze Pad
Tape
I got jacked up while I was riding from my house on the way to Liz’s. It’s about a 25 mile ride and at mile 14, which is around the downtown area, a dog slammed into the side of me. This guy threw a frisbee for his dog across the path I was on but his dog made it safely past me. The dog that hit me was charging after the other dog and ran right into the side of me and my bike. Taco city. My front wheel was taco-ed. My knees look like tacos and my head felt like taco filling.
The owner was very nice and has offered to pay for the damages. A REALLY nice bystander went to her apartment to get some stuff to dress my wounds. The funny thing is that right after that, all the dog owners scattered because they all had their dogs off-leash and someone mentioned getting one of the park patrollers.
Getting my roadrash scrapes out of the way…

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackYowsers, thats pretty intense. I totally understand the desire to let your dog off-leash but this is one of many reasons why there is a time and a place to take your dog off-leash. Out here in the neighborhood (Stapleton) it’s really starting to get out of control. The rules aren’t just for everyone else (in my best cranky old man voice).
I understand that desire, too. I really would like to think that if Denver built an off-leash dog park that things like this wouldn’t happen, but as we’ve seen in Stapleton some people think their dogs can be off-leash EVERYWHERE.
GET OFF MY LAWN. Damn, meddling kids….
